SHENANDOAH

Four days in Shenandoah National Park, based at Big Meadows Campground with a hike to Big Loft Mountain.

Four days in the mountains.

This July trip was centered on Big Meadows Campground, with time set aside for hiking, photography and exploring Shenandoah.

A hike to Big Loft Mountain was one of the trip highlights and became a natural anchor for this first Shenandoah photo story.

The road to Shenandoah.

The trip to Big Meadows began in King George, Virginia, and traveled west into Shenandoah National Park before finishing on Skyline Drive.

SHENANDOAH BASE

Big Meadows Campground

VIRGINIA · JULY 7–10, 2026

Big Meadows was a practical base inside Shenandoah National Park. The campsite was on the smaller side and the campground could be a bit noisy, but the site was level enough for the camper and the bathrooms were good. Generator use ended after 8 PM, which made the evenings quieter. Store and grocery runs required a bit of travel.
